I’ve been a massive fan of Carly Rae Jepsen for years—her music has basically been the soundtrack to my happiest, most dramatic pop-loving moments. So when it was announced that she was headlining Day 1 of Wanderland Music & Arts Festival 2023 for her So Nice Tour, I knew I couldn't miss it. The "Iglesia Ni Carly" (Church of Carly) assembly in Manila was real, and being right there in the open field at Filinvest City with thousands of fellow pop enthusiasts screaming every single word was pure, unadulterated serotonin.

As soon as the intro visuals hit and she kicked things off with "Surrender My Heart," the energy erupted. Hearing her live voice deliver those pristine 80s-synth pop melodies felt like getting hit with a wave of pure happiness.

B-Sides, Cult Classics, and Euphoric Sing-Alongs

She cycled effortlessly through tracks like "Too Much," "Julien," and "Talking to Yourself," showcasing just how tight her touring band is. Her mashup of "Emotion" into "Favourite Colour" gave me absolute chills—"Favourite Colour" is such an underrated deep cut, and hearing it live felt like a dedicated gift to her long-time Manila fans.

Dancing Through the Heartbreak and Hype

By the time she ran through "Your Type," "Boy Problems," and the dance-heavy "I Didn't Just Come Here to Dance," my feet were hurting from non-stop dancing, but no one cared. When the synth-bassline of "The Loneliest Time" dropped, everyone did the TikTok dance in unison—it was equal parts hilarious and iconic.

The Ultimate Pop Ending

For the encore, Carly slowed it down briefly with the raw, acoustic vibes of "Go Find Yourself or Whatever," followed by the fun, cheeky energy of "Beach House."
Then came the finale. If you’ve ever been to a Carly Rae Jepsen show, you know there’s only one way to close it out: "Cut to the Feeling." Confetti, flashing lights, jumping till our knees gave out, and thousands of voices singing that explosive chorus into the night sky. It was the ultimate, cathartic pop climax.

I left Filinvest City exhausted, completely voiceless, and riding high on a post-concert glow that lasted for days. Carly Rae Jepsen proved once again why she reigns supreme as the undisputed queen of pop.

Wanderland’s comeback after the long hiatus felt special on its own, but the energy on Day 1 was completely elevated because of Carly. Walking onto the festival grounds, you could instantly tell who was there for CRJ—glitter, bright pastel outfits, and an infectious collective excitement in the air. By the time it was almost time for her set, the crowd packed tight towards the main stage.

What makes Carly’s concerts so special compared to standard pop shows is the crowd depth. We weren't just waiting around for the radio hits; the Manila crowd sang back every single B-side word for word. Transitioning straight into "Joshua Tree" set a party tone, but when the iconic sax opening of "Run Away With Me" hit? The entire field lost its collective mind. Jumping up and down with thousands of strangers screaming that intro line was an absolute core memory.

Of course, "Call Me Maybe" was a massive nostalgic throwback that had everyone—casual festival-goers and die-hard fans alike—screaming at the top of their lungs. But the run of songs that followed proved why her modern discography is unmatched. Tracks from The Loneliest Time like "Western Wind" and "So Nice" brought a breezy, sunset-tinged warmth to the night air before ramping right back up into the bouncy synth rhythm of "I Really Like You" and "Want You in My Room."
